*ETA: I finally got enough time to really finish this one, so here is the finished version. Due to the contest time constraints I barely made it with what I would have really liked to spend more time on!
Pastels over watercolor, Pigma micron ink pens. 16 by 20 inches. Painted exclusively for the online "James and the Giant Peach" contest.
Just daydreaming and retreating to my "happy place"!
This one is similar to my earlier "Little Owl's Dream" - A lot of childlike doodles (no planning or reference), over poured and drippy watercolors. I like to go with the flow - many of the bubbles and the area of the Tamarin Tree itself were determined by shapes formed by drying my watercolors under a piece of plexiglass with a weight on top. I placed myself inside the large bubble near the center.
